This past weekend I had the pleasure of speaking at the BConnected Conference in Ottawa. I spoke to about 80 bloggers and entrepreneurs about writing killer content. My session wasn’t about SEO or any traffic driving strategies but it was all about crafting kickass content using solid writing tips, techniques, and tools. Let’s face it, good writing is the key. You can use the tips and techniques to drive traffic to your site but if the writing is bad people won’t likely come back.
Here is the thing, I know SEO works BUT I am a firm believer in giving your readers solid, well-written content. You never know who your readers will be. It could be a brand reading your content to see if you are the right blogger to work on their next campaign. It could be a producer or reporter reading your blog/content, doing a little research on you after you sent a rocking media pitch. Just imagine, you have great use of keywords but your posts are littered with typos (I am even guilty of that sometimes – no one is perfect) or it has bad sentence structure. Maybe your posts lack photos or video or anything visual to draw your reader in. Or maybe your writing lacks personality?
None of us have an excuse for bad writing. If you blog you are a writer and it is your job to improve your craft. There are tips, tools, techniques, and resources to help you improve your writing. When you are producing and publishing content you are showing the world who you are and what you do. You WANT and NEED the world to see you for the GREAT writer you are! (all you BConnected peeps know how much I love that word!)
This is all about your online presence…which is important. A GREAT online presence will get you customers and clients, attract brands who want to work with bloggers, get the attention of the media, build your credibility and the all important know, like, and trust factor.
I wanted to post my slides from the weekend so you have some of my quick tips to help you. Click the link for your final bconnected kickass content.
No one is perfect. Heck, I don’t even think perfection is possible. Great is possible 😉 . The beauty of this digital/online space is you can always go back and fix your content and make it better!
Don’t forget to check out my previous post that has a content cheat sheet and checklist.
