There is no denying the power of YouTube.com. Every day there are billions of views on YouTube. Now that is power!
Like every other way to create content there is the good, the bad and the ugly. It is all about great content, great video and create audio. You also need to put together an interesting and engaging performance. While not every video is informative, all the good (or popular) videos are entertaining in some way.
I decided to talk to a YouTube expert to get a few tips to help you create videos that rock.Laura Berg is president and founder of My Smart Hands Inc., one of North America’s leading baby signing companies. Her YouTube channel ranks among the top in Canada. She has over 24 million views.
Q: Can you share with us how and why you got started producing YouTube videos?
A: I started as a way to promote my business. Tons of people heard of the ‘concept’ of baby signing but never seen a baby sign. I posted a video of my daughter singing and it snowballed from there.
Q: You have great success with your videos, with millions of views, why do you think people are so drawn to your videos?
A: In the beginning there weren’t very many baby signing videos on YouTube, that helped. Now people are drawn to my videos because I am a ‘real’ person. They feel like they know me as a mom and person. They aren’t over produced, just me and the camera.
Q: What do you think is essential to a great video/vlog?
A: Consistency – regular uploading and consistent theme. Also one that encourages comments/discussions and engages with viewers.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering starting their own YouTube channel and/or creating their own videos?
A: Start by trying to post one a week on the same day to create consistency. Find a topic you are passionate about and that you can maintain over a long period of time.
