Have you ever struggled to get pen to paper?
Or words on the computer screen?
I honestly think it happens to every writer at least once and even more often for many! So how do you get those creative juices flowing again?
Here are three things that I find helpful… and you might too!
1. Just WRITE!
I know that seems strange to hear when we just talked about how you are struggling to get the words out BUT just hear my out. Any time I have struggled with my writing mojo one of the easiest ways to get writing is just to do it. Write without any direction. Write without a purpose other than just to put words on the paper or your computer screen. Every November I try to take part in NANOWRIMO for that very reason. The point of the challenge is just to write. The years that I have actually been successful and reached the 50,000 word challenge I didn’t think about what I was writing too much and just let the words flow and what I found at the end was the writing wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was. Challenge yourself to write for a few minutes each day. Let’s say you will write for 15 minutes every single day and before long you will find that you are writing past that time limit. I think you will find that writing becomes a routine, something you do every day just to keep those the creative juices flowing.
2. Use Inspirational Prompts
Find a quote from one of your favourite authors. Create a scenario and write from that. Use a photo that is particularly inspiring. All of these things can help you make the jump and find somewhere to get started. Sometimes the hardest thing is to actually start.
3. Read.
Sometimes I just need some additional inspiration. What better inspiration than words. The written word of another author can get your brain fired up and get you imagination moving again.
What things do you do to help you stay in the zone? Are there things that you do in your daily routine that help you stay focused and continue to produce content?
