Media Monday: Be Colourful

What do I mean by BE COLOURFUL?

What I mean is be more than just VANILLA. If you want to get the attention of the media to get press for you business, brand or blog then you need to stand out from the crowd of other story pitches and press releases. There is so much noise in the media landscape these days so it can be hard to get the attention of journalists but that doesn’t mean it is impossible. Producers and reporters are looking for good stories but also stories that haven’t been told before or are being told in a different, unique or fun way.

What I don’t want to see you do is exaggerate your story or make it bolder than it is. Nothing will annoy a journalist more if the story you are pitching isn’t true or isn’t what you hyped it up to be. Be you and think outside the box a little. Media audiences are savvy these days and are also busier than ever before. There is more pulling at the attention of an audience today and so there is a greater demand to make the stories journalists are sharing engaging, entertaining and informative. So BE COLOURFUL! Add colour and texture to your story ideas and pitches. Show rather than tell a journalist why your story is perfect for their audience. Think about how you can make your story pop off the computer screen and come alive.

Think about how you can not only get the journalist excited about your story but the audience too!  What excites you about your story? What excites you about your business, brand or blog? Share that.
