The Demo Pitch + Template

So I have been sharing a bunch of media pitch techniques or strategies with you. There are lots of different ways to pitch the media and I am going to get to as many as I can. So I have already shared the how-to pitch , the share your why pitch and the piggy-back the news pitch. Be sure to go back and review those pitch techniques at any time. I have tossed a lot of information in those posts.

Now I want to touch on the DEMO PITCH.

When I say DEMO PITCH I don’t mean demolition. What I mean is demonstration!

This is a great pitch for television because it is visual. Being visual is essential when it comes television shows, think all those great breakfast/morning shows like CityTV’s Breakfast Television, Good Morning America and the Today show.

This pitch is all about showing people how to solve a problem they might be having. Make a list of the things you might be able to show or demonstrate that serve as visual proof of the problem you solve or the solution you offer. Props are the key to this pitch.

Maybe you are a professional stager, you could show how to take a room and edit and arrange furniture to show off a room. You could show how making a few changes can make a huge impact on how a room shows and how potential home sellers could get top dollar for their house. This would be a great segment, especially if you can find someone on the show or at the media outlet who has their home up for sale and you offer to use their home for the demo segment!

Think about all possible industries or niches that could use this pitch technique…

  • professional organizers
  • personal shoppers
  • image consultants
  • make-up artists
  • fitness instructors
  • budget/money saving/financial experts
  • nutritionists
  • decorators/designers
  • contractors
  • social media experts/consultants …think social media how-to demonstration

The list of topics and experts is endless.

The DEMO PITCH is all about the visual proof. You want to think about the problem you can solve and ways you can use a demonstration to show the solutions.

So make a list of some of the common problems your customers and clients have. Brainstorm. Create as many problems as you can think of and then list the corresponding solutions for the problem. A spreadsheet or a chart might work well for this.

Here is an example of a_demo_pitch_template you can use. You can use it digitally (fill it out and save it on your computer) or print it off and use. It is just one example of the type of template you could use to help you plan out your pitch technique.

Remember, this is about showing people how to solve a problem not just telling them.

As with any pitch, you want to be clear and concise. You want to be clear about what the problem is and how you can best solve it with a demonstration. You want to be concise when telling the producer why you are the best person to solve this problem and demonstrate the solution. Be clear on who you are and why your expertise is best suited for the show.
