May Pitch & Post Ideas

There are some great pitch worthy dates, events and themes in May that can help you with your next blog post, social media share or media pitch.

May Showers Bring Spring Flowers…and so much more

Remember, it’s not about reinventing the wheel but sharing content, stories, ideas, and expertise that is timely, newsworthy and relevant. Below is a short list of ideas to help you jump start your pitch and post ideas for May.

Gift ideas for graduates: There is a lot here worth pitching, especially if you have a product to share. This is the time of year where you could share a grad gift guide but also think outside the box a little here. It’s not just for what you would traditionally think of when it comes to gifts, like watches or jewelry, but also a great time to talk about gift ideas like investments or even career coaching services.

Mother’s Day: Now’s the time to pitch all last-minute gifts for all the mothers in your life. Blog posts and social shares can be done last minute but if you are pitching lifestyle and morning shows and even magazines you will want to pitch early…think weeks or even months ahead of time.

Fair Trade Day – Falling on May 13 this year. Think about fair trade brands including coffee, candles, skin care, and apparel.

Mental Health Awareness Month – Think about sharing self-care pitches or about how you, your business or brand deals with mental health in the workplace, or even share about work-life balance. If you are a parenting expert, maybe think about share tips on family mental health.

May flowers – As the weather warms up more and more of us head out into the garden, and that is a great tip to share posts about gardening and getting outdoors with the family.

Spring Rebirth – Think about things that are a refresh…maybe a refresh of your wardrobe, a refresh on your job and career path or a refresh on your mindset. These are all topics you could pitch or post that tie into the theme of spring and rebirth or refresh, just like the season.

***just keep in mind when it comes to some of these “days” they change from year to year so be sure to check your calendar before pitching and posting***

It is important to create your own editorial calendar with dates and themes that work with your industry and area of expertise. When planning it can be easier to think in terms of seasons or even quarters. Always look and plan ahead, especially when it comes to media pitches. Lifestyle or lighter content is usually booked well in advance. If it is a newsworthy pitch tied to a story, theme or event happening in the daily news you can be more spontaneous with your pitch.
